Overview

This page explains how to integrate Smartfacts CDCM (Cross Domain Configuration Management) with IBM ELM DOORS Next. Users will learn how Smartfacts CDCM utilizes local configurations from authoring tools, such as DOORS Next, to define configuration items. The section provides a step-by-step guide to establishing the connection and outlines the core principles of this integration.

Details

Understanding the Integration

Smartfacts CDCM integrates with IBM ELM DOORS Next by referencing local configurations a.k.a. external work products, which can either be:

  • Streams: Configurations that can be modified over time.

  • Baselines: Immutable configurations that remain static.

This integration leverages the OSLC Configuration Management standard to connect with DOORS Next and manage configuration items efficiently.

Steps to Add a Connection to DOORS Next

To connect Smartfacts CDCM to a DOORS Next instance, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Administration Panel:

    • Go to Administration > Storage Location within Smartfacts CDCM.

  2. Add a New Storage Location:

    • Click the "+ Add Storage Location" button.

  3. Select the Storage Type:

    • Choose "OSLC Configuration Provider" from the list of options.

  4. Enter the Root Service URI:

    • Provide the root service URI of the DOORS Next instance in the following format: https://[IBM ELM base URL]/rm/.

  5. Automatic Retrieval of Connector Name:

    • After entering the root service URI, the system will automatically retrieve and display the name of the connector.

  6. Verify the Connection:

    • The new storage location will appear in the list of storage locations.

    • Once added, you can select "Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Next" as the target when creating a configuration item using a DOORS Next local configuration.

Best Practices

  • Always verify the root service URI before adding it to ensure accuracy and avoid connection issues.

  • Regularly check the list of storage locations to ensure connections remain valid and up to date.
