Overview

This page explains how to integrate Smartfacts CDCM (Cross Domain Configuration Management) with PTC Codebeamer. Users will learn how Smartfacts CDCM references local configurations from Codebeamer to define configuration items. The section includes a step-by-step guide for establishing the connection and highlights key integration features.

Details

Understanding the Integration

Smartfacts CDCM integrates with Codebeamer by referencing local configurations as external work products. These configurations can be:

  • Tracker Versions: Configurations that may change over time.

  • Tracker Baselines: Immutable configurations that remain fixed.

Note: Support for working sets is planned for future releases of Smartfacts CDCM.

The integration uses the OSLC Connector for Codebeamer developed by MID, ensuring seamless connectivity and adherence to OSLC standards.

Steps to Add a Connection to Codebeamer

To connect Smartfacts CDCM to a Codebeamer instance, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Administration Panel:

    • Access Administration > Storage Location within Smartfacts CDCM.

  2. Add a New Storage Location:

    • Click on the "+ Add Storage Location" button.

  3. Select the Storage Type:

    • Choose "OSLC Configuration Provider" from the available options.

  4. Enter the Root Service URI:

    • Input the root service URI for the Codebeamer connector.

  5. Automatic Retrieval of Connector Name:

    • Once the root service URI is provided, the system will automatically retrieve and display the name of the connector.

  6. Verify the Connection:

    • The new storage location will now appear in the list of storage locations.

    • This allows you to select "OSLC Connector for Codebeamer" as a target when creating a configuration item based on a Codebeamer local configuration.

Best Practices

  • Ensure the root service URI is accurate and accessible to avoid connection issues.

  • Regularly review and manage storage locations to maintain seamless integration.
