The Smartfacts Plug-Ins for Modeling Tools

Supported Tools

The Smartfacts plug-in for modeling tools is available for most supported authoring tools, such as Cameo, CATIA Magic, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, Matlab Simulink, Innovator and Rhapsody. The plug-ins provide a significant part of the Smartfacts functionality inside the authoring tools and provide a bridge between the original model loaded into the authoring tool and the multiple versions being published to Smartfacts.

The plug-in has a very simple architecture. It consists of a web browser control which handles various events in the authoring tool, such as a change in context. When the user opens a diagram or selects an element in a diagram, then the Smartfacts plug-in checks with the Smartfacts platform if there is any relevant information, such as links or comments to be shown.

Installing and Updating the Plug-In

All plug-ins can be downloaded from the Smartfacts main menu via Get Plug-Ins.

The plug-in has to be installed locally on the machine that is used to run the authoring tool. All plug-ins have an installer.

Updates of the plug-in's functionality are usually rolled out centrally by updating the Smartfacts platform. The plug-in itself does not have to be updated.

Main Menu

The  main menu offers general functions.

  • Smartfacts Hub

The hub allows you to use a significant part of the Smartfacts functionality you know from the web application. It is the core view for Smartfacts information via the plug-in.

  • Publish

Publishing the currently-loaded model is done via a wizard.

  • MWH (Model Warehouse)
Select the Model Warehouse from the list of Model Warehouses accessible for you.

  • Change Instance
Your organization might have a test and a production environment. You can change the Smartfacts instance you are working with. The current environment is shown at the very bottom of this menu page.

  • Model Connectivity
Whenever an original model is published to a Smartfacts instance, Smartfacts adds the connectivity information of the published version to the original model. This allows Smartfacts to identify the adequate version published to the platform and all information associated with this version, such as links and comments to be connected with the original model in the authoring tool.

  • Configuration

This page allows you to define the Smartfacts host URL which the plug-in will use to authenticate and retrieve its data.

  • Help

    Opens this help page.

  • Individual Help
You can post individual documents via the Smartfacts platform to provide e.g. information on methodology and processes to use Smartfacts.

  • Reload App

    The plug-in application will reload.

  • Logout

You are logged-out from the application.
