Using the Product
Core Use Cases for Smartfacts CDCM
1. Creating a New Unit
Navigate to the Configuration Area page.
Add a new Unit, which automatically creates an initial configuration named "initial stream". This configuration inherits the type associated with the Unit.
Access the initial stream by clicking its name.
Mark the configuration as a favorite by clicking the star icon.
2. Adding External Work Products
Click Add Configuration Item.
Provide a title for the Configuration Item and choose the storage location of the external tool containing the model or document.
Click Select Work Product Reference and pick the desired document or model version from the external repository.
3. Creating a Derived Stream
Navigate back to the Unit by clicking its name above the configuration name.
Use the local menu of the configuration to select Drive Stream and create a second stream.
Access the derived stream and add additional configuration items as needed.
4. Performing a Delta Analysis
At the Unit level, select both the initial stream and the derived stream.
Use the local menu to start a Delta Analysis.
Review the differences between the primary and secondary configurations. Use the arrows to synchronize configuration items between streams as needed.
5. Using Configurations as Internal Work Products
Navigate to another existing Configuration.
Add the newly created initial stream as an Internal Work Product.
6. Performing a Where-Used Analysis
Open Favorites and use the local menu of a stored configuration to start a Where-Used Analysis.
Click Run Analysis at the Unit level. Adjust the display options to view results in a table or graph.
Expand the analysis to the configuration level by selecting No, show all configurations and running the analysis again.
7. Managing Staged Baselines
Navigate to the initial stream and start a Staged Baseline. A staged baseline is open but not fully baselined.
Ensure all internal and external work products are set to Baseline Closed.
On the Configuration Area page, verify the number of baselined items.
Once all items are baselined, set the staged baseline to Baseline Closed. The baseline is now complete.
